About Us
Food is the fuel of life, of great conversation and memorable meals. Its substance is far more than just the nutrients acquired in the act of eating. It’s the knowledge of loving preparation, the anticipation of sharing a beautifully cooked and presented meal and the delicious pleasure of engaging all our senses as we eat. Food is nutrition not just for the body, but also for the soul. It’s what fires our appetite for life, no matter what age.
The Foundation is a vibrant, influential and an authoritative charity that will improve the food experience and quality of life for current and future generations of older people. In fellowship with her Board of industry leaders, professors and health advisors, Maggie has made it her personal mission to link the latest research of how the food we eat can impact brain health and general wellbeing, with her innate knowledge of what good food can do for everyone’s emotional wellbeing – a truly nourishing mix, so much greater than the sum of its parts.
The Foundation is a credible voice in the community – our strategies are clearly defined and our programs are structured. We have developed online skills-based training for aged care cooks, chefs and their managers, partnering with two experts in the field (William Angliss and Altura Learning) to bring the online training across the whole of Australia. We have also looked at the myriads of factors that can influence an older person’s life in aged care and recognise the link between food and its effects on their emotional wellbeing.
Our Mission
Established in 2014, the Maggie Beer Foundation is guided by the belief that, with help from so many committed people we can bring about life-altering change to the well-being of older people by having access to food full of flavour and nutrients.
Our Vision
Together we will uplift the quality of life of older Australians (and particularly those needing aged care) through the joy and nourishment of healthy, tasty food.
Our Purpose
We inspire, advocate for and educate older Australians and those who support them to source, prepare and provide food that is delicious, enjoyable and full of flavour and goodness.
It should be everyone’s right to have good food and I believe that no one group of people need it more. My hope is that every meal can give comfort and pleasure, always something to look forward to.
There is much work to be done but the journey is so exciting. There are those already doing brilliantly looking after the elderly and I wish to find them and reward them with kudos. For those in aged care homes not lucky enough to have leadership that understands the importance; the difference; that good food and the way it is delivered can make, we believe by working closely with those who wish to embrace the principles of the joy that food can bring, we can change lives.
Strategic Plan
The latest Strategic Plan 2025 – 2027 document created by MBF Board Members is now available for public distribution. This plan charts a course to grow the influence of the MBF through the certification of food providers, by building skills and awareness of those preparing the food and in facilitating a research program to create the evidence that will drive policy and culture change for the benefit of older people in our community.
