Elders tip: Honey, lemon and a slice of ginger for a sore throat

25 September, 2018

An oldie but a goodie! Simply add 1 tablespoon of good quality honey, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 1 thin slice of ginger into a mug, top with hot water, stir and sip to ease a sore throat. I believe some elders add a dash of brandy too!

Honey has long been used as a sore-throat remedy. It has antibacterial properties and also acts as a hypertonic osmotic, which means that it draws water out of inflamed tissue, reducing swelling and discomfort. (ref: readers digest)
