Celebrating Aged Care Cooks and Chefs at Admiralty House

20 November, 2025

Our Patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, recently hosted a special event at Admiralty House to celebrate the cooks and chefs who play such an important role in aged care.

Against the stunning backdrop of the harbour, Her Excellency and Maggie Beer AO spoke about the importance of good food as we age and the profound impact it has on dignity, wellbeing, and daily enjoyment.

The event featured a panel discussion convened by our CEO, Jane Mussared, with three aged care chefs:

  • Sue Beeforth (Cooinda, Coonabarabran)

  • Achmed Abdullah (Charles Chambers Court, Sydney)

  • Rachel Knight (Maggie Beer Foundation)

They shared heartfelt reflections on what brings them joy in their work and how thoughtful, flavour-packed meals can make a meaningful difference in the lives of older people. Their stories were a powerful reminder of the purpose and care that underpin excellent food service in aged care.

Guests were treated to a memorable afternoon tea, proving that a menu fit for an aged care home can shine just as brightly at Admiralty House. Our thanks go to the Governor-General’s Executive Chef, Jane Booth, and guest chefs Rachel Knight, Skye Huong (Howard Solomon, WA), and Brad Forbes (Heywood Health, Victoria) for creating such a delightful spread.

Her Excellency highlighted that it takes a village to support great food in aged care homes. We were pleased to welcome many members of that village, including aged care leaders, consumer groups, government representatives, clinicians, regulators, skills councils, chefs, donors, and peak bodies. Together, we share a commitment to ensuring all older Australians have lifelong access to good food.
