Every year in Australia, over 5.3 million tonnes of good food is thrown away. The Maggie Beer Foundation is supportive of any organisation trying to reduce this wastage and we were delighted to hear from ‘Imperfect Market’, a NSW based company who are rescuing ugly, rejected produce directly from farms throughout Australia and supplying them to commercial and institutional food buyers at a significantly reduced price (30% – 50% savings), although at this stage they are only delivering to Sydney Central and Inner Metro, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, Western Suburbs. We know there are other organisations around the country working on similar projects – if you know of one, please let us know, we want to encourage the use of these often rejected foods in whatever way we can.
