What’s in season?

31 March, 2020

In the wake of Coronavirus (COVID-19), we all know that being healthy is an important protective factor and will help to reduce the impact of Coronavirus.  What we eat is so important at this time because it is central to staying well and managing other medical conditions which might otherwise contribute to vulnerability. It is a wonderful way to savour life, including when we have to put up with periods of being isolated to prevent infection. Now, more than ever, we should eat fresh, seasonal, wholesome food as much as we can.

This month look out for fruits in season – apples, pears, persimmon, pomegranate and one of Maggie’s favourites, figs.

And delicious vegetables in season include eggplant, capsicum, pumpkin, beetroot, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, silverbeet and spinach

The Maggie Beer Foundation challenges older Australians to try one of our recipes each week. These are easy to find on our website https://maggiebeerfoundation.org.au/recipes/
